Google Terrain Mapping

Google just keeps getting better with age. I guess they just rolled out their new terrain view for google maps. Man is it a lot of fun.

They recently released a new version of Google Maps for Pocket PC as well. It detects your location based on your distance from the closest cell phone towers. It's nowhere near as accurate as GPS, but it's nice if you don't have a GPS reciever handy.

Very cool. I had not heard about that. That could be a lot of fun to play with!

Also, you might want to check out Live maps. It's at http://maps.live.com it's pretty cool, they have aerial photography of a lot of areas (my street even has views from 4 different angles, it's under "Bird's Eye" view), it's much higher resolution that google's satellite coverage. Some of the downtown shots are amazing. I could pick out which car was mine on the roof of the garage I park at for work.

MS also released an upgrade for Live mobile that includes lists of gas prices for your area. The data is incredibly accurate for my area of town.

Wow!!! Microsoft has beaten google on this one. Well except for the fact that it only works with IE. I can see my truck parked in front of my house. Very cool. I am going to have to play around with this some more.

Works on Firefox 2.0.0.10 for me.

Maps are cool, the terrain map doesn't really do anything for me as the south of England is basically flat. I would be much more excited about it if I lived in mountains. I like the satelite view, although it is a bit old.
